About the tournament

The anniversary All Stars Cup covered by a new co-organizer: FA of the Czech Republic!

The All Stars Cup will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year! In addition to the new anniversary logo, it may seem at first glance that the tournament will be presented in its traditional and proven form. But that’s not exactly true. So what has changed and what remains the same?

The same date: this time around the third long weekend in June falls on 15 – 17 June 2018.

The same category: this year the U16 tournament will be played by young footballers born in 2002.

The same playing system: there will be 16 teams from around the world, each of which will play nine matches – on Friday and Saturday in groups and the play-off will take place on Sunday. There will be a total of 72 matches evenly distributed over playing days.

What has changed fundamentally is an organizational conception of the event! Following years of courtship we have reached an agreement with Football Association of the Czech Republic which becames a co-organizer with us! Last periods Czech FA mostly provided All Stars Cup with auspices, international guarantees and elite referees, at present, with the tournament included in FA budget schemes, our mutual cooperation achieves another, much more desired level.

Besides, also the location of the tournament has changed! After eight years in the SK Slavia Prague training centre on Vladivostocká Street (the first tournament was held at the FC Háje Jižní Město complex), the All Stars Cup is moving to the Horní Počernice sports centre. This is former second league complex where the Slavia U21 and youth teams U17 – U19 play.

From a sports perspective, this is certainly a change for the better. Both of the playing fields have natural grass, meaning that the entire tournament should be played on the same surface. Fans will be sure to appreciate the fact that roofed stands are attached to the main field with seating areas that protect against the hot sun and rain. There is also a quality artificial field available, but it will only be used for pre-match warmups. The complex in Horní Počernice is also interesting due to the fact that in addition to fields, it also includes three administration buildings and three restaurants!

It can be assumed that the tournament will have a different atmosphere than in the past thanks to the new complex and different organization of playing surfaces. During two simultaneous matches, fans will have to choose a particular field, and it is realistic to assume that there will be greater “migration” of crowds from place to place.

A now a few words about the teams. The All Stars Cup is synonymous with quality, and 2018 confirms this fact yet again. The main draw is FC Barcelona, who after many years heard our invitation and sent the Cadete A team. However, this is not their first time here, as FC Barcelona escola played here in 2010. Last year’s winner FC Porto will be back to defend its title, Paris Saint-Germain and Fukuoka will return after premiering last year, and Mexico’s Chivas Guadalajara will also be part of the tournament. New teams join the tournament each year, and this year includes three strong teams from the east: Zenit St. Petersburg, Besiktas JK and SC Gabala. 1. FC Slovácko and FC Fastav Zlín will be premiering from the domestic teams.

This year we are once again organizing the All Stars Cup in cooperation with football clubs SK Slavia Praha and Bohemians Praha 1905, with the support of the Prague City Hall and the Municipal District of Prague 10. Come and see – the tournament begins only one day after the opening of World Cup in Russia. The starting match of the World Cup is on 14 June in Moscow, and All Stars Cup kicks off on 15 June in Prague! While 70 matches will be played at Horní Počernice sports centre, last two decisive encounters (3rd place match, final) will be served by Ďolíček stadium, a legendary home of Bohemians Praha 1905.
